When the San Francisco 49ers came to New York to play the Jets in week four of the NFL regular season, few members of Gang Green had reason to be optimistic. The Jets had failed to live up to their week one demolition of the Buffalo Bills, following with dismal showings against Pittsburgh and Miami in weeks two and three respectively, and not many going to the MetLife Stadium on a Sunny Sunday morning in East Rutherford, New Jersey had high hopes for Sanchez and his men. I, however, did. I am naturally an optimistic person, but my optimism was boosted by the fact that this particular game was my first-ever Jets game. I was hoping that I would be a good omen for New York against the high-flying San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, it was not to be as I was on hand to witness quite possibly the worst Jets performance I have ever seen, but despite the demolition job by San Fran, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

As sure as night follows day, the Jets offer hope then snatch it away from under our noses. An opening day 48-28 rout of the hapless Buffalo Bills was forgotten as a depleted Pittsburgh Steelers team ran roughshod over the undermanned and outmatched Jets in a 27-10 laugher at Heinz Field in week 2.

As the clock struck midnight and 18th April arrived, the NFL released the full schedule of games for the 2012 season, throwing up a host of questions, leading to significant speculation, procrastination and conspiracy theories.

Much of the talk is premature, as rosters still lie incomplete, the draft has to take place and the second wave of Free Agency is in front of us, but there are matters of fact that can be analysed which will hold true regardless of the quality of opponents lining up.
